YIA-Kenya equips young people across Kenya with agribusiness skills, overseas employment preparation, sports pathways, and digital income, while running Kenya's most rigorously documented community conservation programme.
Empowerment that pays, and an environment we account for
The Youth Innovation Action Organization of Kenya (YIA-Kenya) is a registered National NGO founded on one conviction: Kenyan youth do not need handouts, they need structured pathways into income. We register members and give them practical access to agribusiness training, overseas employment preparation through licensed channels, sports talent linkages, digital income skills, and mentorship.
Alongside this, our environmental conservation programme is not a side activity. Every tree we plant is GPS-located, assigned a unique Tree ID (e.g. YIA-EMB-2026-0001), and followed up by a named Community Tree Monitor, quarter after quarter, until it is established.

Most tree-planting drives end with a photo. Ours begins one. Every tree we plant receives a unique Tree ID, GPS coordinates, and a named Community Tree Monitor who reports on it monthly for year one, then quarterly after that.

Born from a conviction, not a donor call
The Youth Innovation Action Organization of Kenya (YIA-Kenya) was founded by Dr. Obwoge Frankline Keraro out of a direct response to the unemployment crisis facing Kenyan youth. With over 75% of Kenya's population under 35, and youth unemployment at 35–40%, the country's greatest resource, its young people, remains its most underused.
We operate across Kenya with a registered Constitution, a Board of Directors, and a bank account authorized by the Public Benefit Organizations Regulatory Authority (PBORA).

Agribusiness & Entrepreneurship
Practical, income-focused training delivered in partnership with KALRO, county agriculture offices and TVET institutions. Each cohort runs for 5 days and covers business planning, input sourcing, production, and market access.

Waste to Cash Programme
Most communities see waste as a problem. YIA-Kenya sees it as an untapped income stream. Our Waste to Cash Programme organises youth members into structured recycling enterprises that collect, sort and sell three categories of waste, creating real earnings while cleaning our communities.
Stream 1: Organic Waste to Compost
Food scraps, agricultural residues and garden waste are converted into high-quality compost through our community compost units. The finished product, branded YIA-Kenya Green Compost, is sold to farmers, nurseries and county agriculture offices at market rates. One compost unit produces income every 60 days.
Stream 2: Plastic and Metal Waste
Youth members lead monthly plastic and metal collection drives in their communities. Sorted materials are sold directly to licensed buyers including Mr. Green Africa and Taka Taka Solutions. Members earn from every kilogram collected. No special equipment required, only training and organisation.
Stream 3: Electronic Waste (E-Waste)
Computers, phones, batteries, printers and televisions are collected during bi-annual e-waste drives and handed over to WEEE Centre Kenya, the country's leading licensed e-waste recycler. Functional devices are refurbished and donated to rural schools, creating a dual social and environmental impact.

The YIA-Kenya Tree Register
Every tree GPS-located. Every tree assigned an ID. Every tree monitored by name, not by guesswork.
1. Plant & Tag
Each tree receives a unique Tree ID at planting, e.g. YIA-EMB-2026-0001, encoding county and year.
2. GPS Record
Precise coordinates logged within 48 hours and entered into the Digital Tree Register.
3. Assign a Monitor
A named Community Tree Monitor is assigned to every cluster of 20–50 trees, trained on watering, gap-filling and threat reporting.
4. Monitor Quarterly
Survival status and growth stage updated monthly in Year 1, then quarterly, feeding the Annual Climate Justice Report.
